And if spring has been soggy and you’re just getting started now, don’t worry — it’s not too late. Getting nutrients and energy to the plant early helps drive that energy down into the roots, building a stronger, more resilient turf plant for the season ahead. The key is working with the soil and the plant instead of forcing growth with heavy nitrogen. In many cases, it doesn’t take much nitrogen at all. As Jack explains, one example from last season used only about two pounds of nitrogen for the entire year, spread over three applications with a couple of additional liquid feeds.
